Chrystia Freeland is a Canadian politician and journalist who has made significant contributions in both fields. Born on August 2, 1968 in Peace River, Alberta, Freeland attended Harvard University and completed her Master’s in Slavonic studies at St Antony’s College, Oxford. She began her career as a journalist, working for publications such as the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Reuters. Her skills and experience led her to become the editor of Thomson Reuters Digital, and she was named one of the World’s Top 100 Most Influential Women by Forbes in 2013.

Freeland’s passion for social and economic issues eventually led her to enter politics, and she was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2013. She served as Minister of International Trade from 2015-2017 and is currently the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. Throughout her political career, Freeland has been known for her strong international relationships and negotiating skills, playing a key role in the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and other trade agreements. She has also been a vocal advocate for issues such as income inequality and women’s rights, earning her the nickname “Feminist-in-Chief.”
